Scaling and Polishing(Teeth Cleaning) procedure is essential to remove the plaque and tartar layer from your teeth. – Dr. Nupur Bhalodia

Many people feel Dental Cleaning is only beneficial to those who are concerned about their appearance. But this is not true! Scaling and Polishing of teeth help most people.

Its very common that Plaque and Tartar accumulate in your teeth and in between gums. You cannot cleaned by normal brushing or flossing. Our dentist, at Harsha Hospital uses ultrasonic devices to remove these deposits. This process makes your teeth clean and prevents cavity.

Why Scaling and Polishing(Teeth Cleaning) is necessary?

Plaque is the sticky layer which constantly forms on your teeth. The plaque should be cleaned daily with Flossing and Brushing. When this plaque sits for a long time on your teeth without being washed away it forms a layer called tartar. It’s the dirty looking layer of mineral deposits. Once it forms you cannot clean it with regular brushing activity. Professional Scaling is only the rescue at this stage.

This procedure is essential to remove the plaque and tartar layer from your teeth. If it is not cleaned then it will start to cause cavities.

Dr. Nupur Bhalodia, Director at Harsha Hospital says “Many people develop tartar layer even after the careful brushing activity and they start feeling bad breath from their mouth Hence a regular cleaning procedure mandatory”

When should I get it done?

At Harsha hospital we recommended to get it done yearly if you are maintaining good oral hygiene, if you have habit of pan and Tabaco than you have to get it done at every six month.

How is it done?

At Harsha hospital we used best quality and upgraded Ultrasonic scaler for scaling. An ultrasonic scaler consists of a hand-piece with a variety of tips which are used depending on the type of tartar being removed. The tip of the device vibrates at a very fast rate and removes the tartar and stains from the outer surface of the tooth.

Will it be painful? Will there be bleeding?

NO:Its very simple procedure ,We at Harsha Hospital believe in gentle dentistry our dentist will apply topical anesthesia on your gums so while you finished few movie clips we would have finished it. If there are deep deposits, our dentist will usually use local anesthesia before the procedure. There may be slight bleeding as the plaque and tartar normally cause gum soreness and touching highly inflamed gums can cause bleeding..

“I’ve heard that teeth become loose after the procedure. Is it true?”

This is a moat common MYTH. The tooth may appear to be ‘loose’ after the procedure especially if you are suffering from periodontal disease. However, this isn’t because of the procedure. Even though there is a loss of supporting structures like the gums and bone, the tartar surrounding the teeth may hold the teeth together and give a false sense of stability. When this tartar is eliminated the teeth lose their ‘faux anchors’ and it may seem loose.

“Will it be sufficient to reverse my gum disease?”

In case of initial stages of gum disease, teeth cleaning or scaling may be all you need. However, if the gum disease has progressed to further stages like periodontitis, further treatment may be required. Get regular scaling and polishing done for a brighter and healthier smile.

Dr. Maitrey Bhalodia says “Many oral problems start with tarter and plaque so if you get your teeth clean at every six month than you will not have any kind of gum disease.”
